U4 History and Vision

The history of U4 really starts with Ben Plikerd being laid off in 2000. He started Benson Communications in a 100 square foot room in an office complex, servicing 20 computers a week. Benson Communications then moved to a storefront on Main Street, increasing its footprint to 600 square feet. Less than a year later, bursting at the seams again, Benson rented the entire first floor and basement of the storefront.

In October of 2002, Ben Plikerd attended a trade show with Rich Hays, then Director of Development for a local ISP. Ben and Rich attended a seminar called “How to Start You Own Telephone Company.” The presentation ended with, ‘…this can all be yours for one low, low price.’ Ben found someone who could do it for a third of that price and got a group of friends together to brainstorm. This is where U4 was born.

It was determined that a new company, separate from Benson, was needed. It was named U4. After a year and a half of Benson supporting itself and U4, U4 took on its first customer. Although it was much slower than expected, U4 began to grow. U4 decided to offer internet and long distance and combine them into one bill.

In the near future U4 will be in offering more communication services such as U4FAX, U4VMAIL, U4VOIP, U4DATA and U4GREEN. We suggest you follow the links and read more about each of these services.

The not-so-distant future will include Mobile Phones, Internet TV, Business Building Think Tank and many other possibilities.

The Future? Future technology will be smaller, faster, and mobile. With our personal service, U4 is positioned to bring you future technology in ways that are easily understandable.
